trains planes and automobiles

finally, a chance to update the blog...

Monday: Karen kindly gave us a lift to Newquay airport. whilst waiting for the plane there was a torrential deluge which didn't bode well. However we were amused by Julian being detained by security, when he finally emerged he did appear to be walking strangely.

 Flight uneventful

couple of hours spent in Edinburgh (sunny! and warm!) wandered up to the castle saw a few blokes in skirts

Train on to Inverness 3 hours or so, average B&B, Julian delighted to usher us into Wetherspoons for some gourmet carb loading.
Tues:early start to catch train for a very convoluted 4 hours to finally arrive at Wick (in the rain) More carbs (lunch) check the bikes over (all OK). Had to shock the good folks of Wick by changing into cycle gear in the shop. .And we're off..
Easy ride up to JOG with following (Southerly) wind as we got used to the feel of the panniers on bikes. Did the obligatory phootshoot at JOG Then West to Dunnet head (most Northerly mainland point) very much against wind which was 30 mph+ on the side or front to Thurso. But great scenery and some sunshine. Nice B&B in Thurso (folks did some washing for us) into Town for more carbs. Still haven't ventured any further South than JOG!. Looking forward to more rain, wind, pain & Caribbean beaches tomorrow!

total mileage: mere 45 miles

  1. Washing clothes already after 45 miles? Will you be in the launderette every luchtime then?
    Have fun!

  2. I know that JOG to LE makes sound logistical sense if you live down here, but those headwinds could prove to be a real PITA. Have fun anyway!
